Investments that Make Sense

Ever wondered if your donation would actually be put to good use? We’ve certainly been there. That’s why we don’t spend donations, we invest them. By purchasing safe houses and small businesses, nonprofits save on expenses for years to come, multiplying their effectiveness and your impact.

Measuring What Matters

As our slogan mentions, we’re looking for rescues and restoration that lasts. This work is highly relational, requiring key components to bring about this change. Therefore, we get face to face with the nonprofits and their surrounding community to find out just what the survivors can expect from them.

How We Do It

Step #1: IDENTIFY

We find excellent nonprofits doing great work rescuing and restoring survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Step #2: INVITE

Next we invite them to apply for the funding of a project that is designed to multiply their efforts for changing lives.

Step #3: INVEST

Then we partner with you to raise the funds, we sign a contract with the nonprofit, and finally we fund the project.

Step #4: INFORM

After that we keep you aware of how your investment is changing lives for the better through email and social media.

Where will my donation be spent?

100% of your donation goes towards funding an investment with one of our partner organizations.

Some of our donors choose to donate to cover A Cup for a Cause's budgetary needs, making the aforementioned possible.

A Cup for a Cause does reserve the right to use all funds as it deems best, in order to accomplish its mission, however we do everything in our power to honor your designation and welcome any further questions you may have about this at info@acupforacause.org.

Why Safe Houses?

There are two main reasons why we chose safe houses:

According to a 2017 report by Polaris Project, “Housing and shelter requests are by far the most needed service for potential trafficking victims on the Hotline, but in many cases are the most difficult to fulfill.” Our own experience with national and international organizations has confirmed this as well.
In order to successfully leave and recover from the dark world of the trafficking business, survivors need a safe place to live, recover, and find a healthy community they can say they belong to.

Why small businesses?

According to a 2017 Polaris Project report, “Potential victims may... attempt to leave their trafficker multiple times and seek shelter while doing so. However, because of the intensive manipulation, trauma-bonding, and lack of gainful economic opportunities available to them, they may end up leaving the shelter to return to their trafficker.

After spending time in a safe house/recovery home, the next step that many survivors have is to get a job. Unfortunately, many have little to nothing on their resume and need to gain experience. When small businesses - with the intent to hire survivors - are formed, we give them a fighting chance to never be trafficked again.

How do you choose a project?

Because our goal is to team up with organizations that we believe will most effectively serve survivors through your investment, we take time to personally get to know each organization, its leadership, and its supporting community.

The organizations have worked with survivors for at least 4 years as we begin the formal process of relationship building with them. We begin to discuss potential projects in which to invest with organizations that have been helping survivors for at least 5 years.

The financial history, fiscal plans and practices demonstrate sustainability and excellent stewardship for the benefit of survivors.

Finally, our partner organizations show measurable impact. We’re always thrilled to see how many survivors they have invested in and how many they have helped to find freedom.

What happens to my donations after the project I am supporting has been completed?

When you sign up you have the opportunity to designate whether you would you prefer your gift to support a particular project or donate to our Most Urgent Needs fund. Our Most Urgent Needs fund is purposed to fund projects quicker and with more flexibility.

When you donate to a particular project and it becomes fully funded, your continuing donations will automatically be designated towards the Most Urgent Needs funds. If at any point you would like to cancel or change your donation, just contact us at info@acupforacause.org.

Please keep in mind that, while we do everything in our power to honor your designation, A Cup for a Cause reserves the right to use donated funds as it deems best in order to accomplish its purpose.

Philosophy

We believe all people are valuable and worth loving. Therefore, we are against human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

While human trafficking is such an extensive issue in the world, it takes a lot of team work to make the impact necessary to rescue lives, heal hearts, and restore dignity. We want to do our part on that team. We work hard to empower donors and NGO’s to do more together. We strategically identify NGO’s and raise funds to allow survivors of human trafficking the choice of freedom and a new life.

Our goal is to create a personal connection with each organization we partner with so we know exactly who we are recommending to you. Our team grows as survivors that were once oppressed become empowered to participate in life with us, as it should be!
